Safety

Overview

The TRG safety range includes The Psyfactors Situational Safety Awareness Test (SSA®) and The Psyfactors Behavioural Safety Test (BST®). These are valid, reliable, psychologically based assessments to help select employees who are considerably less likely to have a safety incident. They assess an applicant's level of situational safety awareness. These tools are particularly important where workplace hazards are a concern.

The Psyfactors Situational Safety Awareness (SSA®) identifies an individual's safety competency in terms of their ability to see, understand and project the risks around them. The comprehensive competency based Situational Safety Awareness test and its abbreviated counterpart, the Behavioural Safety Test (BST®) test, measure job safety readiness in major hazard facilities. The tests are legally defensible and provide a practical defence to Australian OHS Act requirements.  Select this test if safety is the absolute concern in a hazardous or dangerous environment.

Business results

Take a look at some of the overwhelming statistics from a recent study using a sample of 808 Heavy Industrial and Mining employees:

  • New recruits who scored at or greater than 60 on The SSA® were seven times less likely to have incidents than employees who had not been screened at recruitment
  • 1.5% of tested recruits accounted for 9.25% of incidents compared to 10.3% of untested recruits who accounted for 90.7% of total incidents resulting in a ratio of 1:6.9 in favour of tested recruits

It is now accepted that up to 80% of incidents are due to human error. The following industries have reported the "Percent of all failures attributed to human error " *

  • Jet transport: 65-85%
  • Air traffic control: 90%
  • Maritime vessels: 80-85%
  • Chemical industry: 80-90%
  • Nuclear power plants (US): 70%
  • Road transportation: 85%
  • Manufacturing: 85%
