What is The McQuaig Word Survey®?
The Word Survey is an on-line self-assessment technique that measures an individual’s
underlying temperament or behaviour patterns – as well as his/her morale
and adjustment on the job.
Why do I use it?
Use the Word Survey to:
- Learn as much as you can about an individual’s work habits
before you make a job offer.
- Understand the temperament (behaviours) that candidates will
bring to the job: for instance, their level of urgency, people focus,
sales orientation or independence.
- Get a list of focused interview questions based on the
candidate’s own profile.
What are the benefits?
- No more guesswork: Understanding a candidate’s temperament
helps you differentiate between the natural-born leader, the
natural-born specialist and the people in between. By combining this
with focussed interview questions, you reduce reliance on "gut
feeling" when making hiring decisions.
- Selecting the right person: Increasingly, organisations are
recognising the critical link between behaviour patterns and success.
Research shows that certain jobs call for very specific behaviour
patterns. The candidate with the right behaviour pattern will like the
job, will take to it naturally and will likely be successful. The
candidate with the wrong pattern probably won’t.

the Job Survey, you can quickly and easily compare the behavioural
patterns of candidates to those required for the job.
Who completes the
Word Survey?
The candidate for a position fills it out on-line (or on paper). Usually, this takes no more
than twenty minutes.
How do I get the results?
You can...
- Run these reports yourself through the web-based assessment program, McQuaig On-Line®.
You receive an extensive behavioural assessment and a list of
questions for probing the candidate to see how his/her behaviours
have impacted past work performance.
- Alternately (for instance, if you don't have access to the
internet), you can fax a candidate’s completed Word
Survey to us for processing. We return reports to you by email.
Either way, it’s quick and easy. You get results that are simple to
understand and immediately useful in the hiring process.
